Cathkin Cottage B & B is situated in the heart of the Drakensberg Mountains, in the shadow of the Mighty Champagne Castle and Cathkin Peaks, and is the ideal place from which to explore most of the Drakensberg.

Our rooms all have en suite bathrooms and individual private entrances from our lovely gardens and all have tea/coffee making facilities, personal toiletries, heaters/fans, fridges and daily maid service. Delicious English and/or Continental breakfasts are served on the patio overlooking the pool area with spectacular views – a great way to start each wonderful day in the mountains. Dinner is not provided as most of our guests enjoy sampling the many and varied restaurants in the area, all offering value for money meals, or brrai/BBQ in our park-like garden.
Guests are welcome to swim in the pool, relax in the garden and listen to the many birds. We also have braai and picnic areas under shady trees where you can enjoy a braai, sundowner after a swim or your walk into the mountains. Packed lunches are available for picnics in the mountains or beside one of the many streams and waterfalls. Mnet TV is available if requested when booking your accommodation, but most of our guests prefer to enjoy the peace of the mountains and spend evenings under the star filled skies of the Drakensberg.

Local attractions are mostly within a 10 minute drive from your accommodation and walking/hiking trails start at the cottage, so you don’t even need to get into your car.
Near by attractions include the many hiking and walking trails from Monks Cowl Conservation area, horseriding in the mountains or in a nature reserve where you get up close to rhino, giraffe, wildebeest, buck, zebra, etc. There are also many sporting activities including a championship 18 hole golf course, tennnis, bowls, squash etc. Guided tours to bushmen paintings, a falconry display, Drakensberg Boys Choir Concerts are a must for visitors. Helicopter flips and microlite flights over the mountains are easily arranged. Cathedral Peak and Didima Rock Art Centre is a scenic 40 minute drive. River rafting and quad biking are popular activities and great fun. Local arts and crafts are plentiful and we have excellent restaurants, coffee shops and tea gardens close by, all offering value for money meals.
For those wishing to explore a bit further afield the following day trips are all just over an hours drive from Cathkin Cottage: Giants Castle to see the only San museum in the world where visitors are given explanations of good examples of rock art and how the bushmen lived, Royal Natal National Park, Amphitheatre, Kamberg Canopy Tours, Midlands Meander and lots more.

Cathkin Cottage is situated 2 hours drive from Durban and 3.1/2 hours from Johannesburg on all tarred roads.
